The food was amazing, and I said as much often for everyone to hear. The dessert table was my favorite especially since it was all provided by the hobgoblin bakery. Anyone on the blacklist was forgiven for the party so the Vogels weren’t embarrassed, and it was crazy obvious who those people were. Dozens barely left the table or stood right by it to eat as much as they could.

I couldn’t blame them since the goodies were that amazing. I was spoiled and had them all the time, and I still kept going back for more.

Well, for all the food, but whatever.

It was one of my many rounds of filling my plate when I spotted something that had me fighting a sneer. I glanced over at the woman I vaguely remembered from the last party who had given me shit only to see she was wearing a white dress similar to the one I had.

With crystals all over it.

“I’ve learned to control my power and not make crystals accidentally anymore,” I told her. “I couldn’t learn what I should have because it would have screamed I was a fairy, and men would have destroyed everyone to lock me away for my magic and breed me.”

I swallowed the rest, noting how hostile and bitter I sounded to my own ears. Darby immediately slid his arm around me and it was stiff.

Hell, my guards all reacted, and I practically felt a bubble of pity around me.

“Of course you have, Your Highness,” the woman replied, her face flushing. “I would never think to try and steal fairy magic.” She glanced nervously behind me before clearing her throat. “Your mother was legendary for her fashion sense. None of us are shocked you inherited it, and many will want to follow in your trailblazing path.”

Wait… Huh?

Darby’s grip on my waist tightened, clearly signaling me, so I flipped on my telepathy. “Focused on the food. You completely missed it, agra.”

I realized I tuned in late and didn’t catch it all. “Wait, missed what? I didn’t hear you in time.”

He sighed in his mind, but I could also feel his amusement. “Dozens of women are here in variations of the dress you wore last time and with crystals. You’ve been so focused on the food, you haven’t noticed. We did. Say something nice because people are getting upset you’re embarrassing her, so I would guess she has changed her tune about you.”

“Thank you,” I quickly said but trying to act like it was natural. “I didn’t know that about my mother or that people appreciated my fashion style. Normally, all the negativity is what gets through to me.” I swallowed a wince, not meaning to have said that much. “They’re much heavier than I would have thought. That’s so much extra weight after an hour or longer.”

She blinked at me but then did a double take. “Yes, I hadn’t thought of that either until I added the heels. Standing still for it all to be put together was taxing.
